Maxime Jones-Lloyd is a Garden Designer based in the South of England. She collaborates closely with her clients to understand their needs, ensuring her design results in a garden that fits perfectly with their lives. We have worked closely with Maxime over several years and continue to be impressed by her innate talent and the beautiful gardens she creates.
Maxime draws inspiration from some of the great gardens in the South of England, such as Denmans in West Sussex, where she worked in her early twenties, and Sissinghurst. However, she also manages to find inspiration wherever she goes. "I do try to visit a garden whenever we have gone away somewhere new and kitchen gardens have a real pull. On the day to day I love noticing inspiration around, perhaps when I’m driving or walking. I’m always very interested in details: how an edge looks, how risers of some steps have been finished. Styles of planters. Old culverts. Brick courses, paths. There’s always so much to notice and love."
We caught up with Maxime to ask her about a recent project for clients who had renovated a classical Queen Anne house. Not overtly wedded to tradition, the brief was a garden that would harmonise with their home while also reflecting their fun and eclectic style.
"There was some existing old stone, so the new stone needed to blend with that. Also, a clue to the future garden rested on the fact that the clients had collected a number of vintage Willy Guhl (and other 1960s) planters. This wasn’t going to be the garden to bring in old Italian terracotta! Instead, the corten Bocca garden planter and Bayou water table from Yard really did the job of bringing a cohesive element to the scheme."
The garden didn’t have space for two planters sitting together, so Maxime sourced the large cortex bowl planter and rounded corten water table from Yard to use in a yin-yang formation with a lawn in between. "The planter has an Acer in it and the water feature has a bubble fountain - so they are not the same thing and they are separated by space but they 'speak' to each other and the size of them adds a touch of drama as you walk in."
Corten steel appealed to Maxime for this project for its ability to work in both traditional and contemporary designs. "It's very versatile and the colouring is pleasing on the eye."
Having used Adezz products for a number of years, Maxime is a regular visitor to the Yard Garden Style website to see what is new and to find inspiration."If you need any assistance, a phone call or an email is easily answered by the Yard team".
